SO FEW AND FAR BETWEEN

Just like the Haiku, the short spurts of silence say a whole lot, and one's always tempted to read between the lines...

Here is my contribution to the Last Call of the First Poet Laureate of Santa Clara County (2009-2011), Nils Peterson, who invited residents of the county to write Haiku-ish lines about Santa Clara County. You will find many more such lines on the Haiku-ish Wall.

AT THE PARKING LOT ACROSS OAK HILL CEMETERY

...amid cars blackbirds sparked
with life thrive. Fly. Silent
souls—watch with envy.

AT HISTORY PARK, SAN JOSE

...worlds contained in brick
and mortar come alive—
we inherit their past.

LEAVING DIRIDON

...the plaintive sound of the Caltrain
slices through the silence—scarring
the night.
